Chapter 4 of 8 — The Foundation Playbook

Name the Challenge

Every business has one constraint that matters most right now. Working harder everywhere is expensive and slow. Finding the real challenge — and working there — changes everything.

“If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.”Ecclesiastes 10:10

The Lesson

1

Everything else is a distraction

If the challenge is leads, a new logo will not save you. If it is cash flow, more sales on thin margins will bury you faster. One problem is upstream of the others — find it.

2

The challenge is often the owner

When every decision, sale, and approval runs through you, you are the ceiling. That is not an insult — it is good news, because you can change you faster than you can change the market.

3

Say it out loud in the room

A challenge named precisely is half solved. “Sales are slow” is a complaint. “I have no repeatable way to get in front of new buyers” is a problem a room full of owners can actually work on.

Put It Into Practice

Do these three before the next chapter.

  • Write your single biggest challenge in one specific sentence.

  • List what you have already tried and what it cost — time and money.

  • Bring it to the next meeting as a Bring Your Biggest Challenge question.

Bring It to the Table

What problem have you been working around for more than six months instead of working on?
